Counselling Services

HOW I CAN HELP

The core of my training is Person Centred – you and your experiences are placed at the centre of everything I do.

I also use an integrative approach. Integrative counselling is a combined approach to psychotherapy that brings together different elements of specific therapies. I take the view that different clients need different approaches in varying situations.

Each person needs to be considered as a whole, and counselling techniques must be tailored to their individual needs and personal circumstances. Integrative counselling maintains the idea that there are many ways in which human psychology can be explored and understood – no one theory alone holds the answer.

I am a fully qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), a professional body which ensures professional conduct amongst counsellors and psychotherapists. I abide by their code of ethics and subscribe to their view of best practice.

My qualifications:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling
  • Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Samaritans SIT 2 training
  • Samaritans SIT 1 training

WHAT KIND OF ISSUES CAN YOU BRING TO COUNSELLING?

People come to counselling with a wide variety of concerns and the most common include:

  • stress or anxiety
  • low mood or depression
  • difficulties in your relationships with partners, family or friends
  • problems with anger
  • struggles with body image
  • loss or bereavement
  • trauma
  • physical, sexual or emotional abuse
  • domestic violence
  • difficulties at work or with your studies
  • loss of meaning in your life
  • damaging behaviours and addictions

This isn’t a complete list and I am happy to talk through anything you want to, however unusual, personal or unimportant you might sometimes think it is.

All are welcome, but in common with many therapists I have particular areas and groups that speak to me:

YOUNG ADULTS

Many young adults find themselves unable to meet their aspirations or fulfil their perceived obligations. The journey into maturity seems impossible and littered with pitfalls.

MIDLIFE

Midlife can be extremely difficult. Family pressures, work pressures, financial pressures and the re-surfacing of long past events can combine to make this period of our lives difficult to navigate.

WHO DO I WORK WITH?

I work with all adults aged 18 years and over.

WHERE DO I WORK?

I have a lovely, comfortable therapy room at The Seed Factory in Aller. There is ample free parking and a discreet entrance. I also offer online sessions

YOUR FIRST SESSION

A strong therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client helps to create the best chance for successful therapy. To promote this in our first session together we make an initial assessment, explore what you would like to get from therapy and look at the process going forward. This initial session is free of charge

I work with an open ended number of sessions. However if there are very specific issues that you would like to tackle then we can tailor the number of sessions to suit you.  Sessions last 50 minutes and I work until 1900 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Other times can be arranged also. Fees are £50 for a session.
